Original Joe's
About Original Joe's
A pub has to do several jobs at once. It is a place to eat without ceremony, a place to watch a game, somewhere to take a group when nobody can agree on a plan, and a room where a table for two is not awkward at nine in the evening. Original Joe's works those angles from 2306 6 Hwy on the East Hill side of Vernon, sharing its address with another business at the same site.
Highway 6 is the road east out of the city toward Lumby and the Monashee country beyond, so a spot along this stretch draws two different crowds: the neighbourhood on the hill above and the traffic moving through. That mix is worth keeping in mind when choosing a time, since early evening on a weekend is when both tend to arrive at once. Anyone bringing a group, or coming off a game or an event, does better to phone ahead about a table than to turn up hopeful with eight people.
East Hill is mostly older houses on the slope above the centre, with long views toward Okanagan Lake on one side and Kalamalka Lake on the other, and it sits close enough to downtown that either can anchor an evening. Winter matters on the hill, where side streets hold snow longer than the flat, so the highway itself is often the easier approach. In summer, when the beaches fill and traffic on the eastern route picks up, expect busier evenings across the whole city. Checking on kitchen times before a late arrival saves disappointment.
