Don Cherry's Sports Grill
About Don Cherry's Sports Grill
Game nights need somewhere with enough screens that you are not craning around a post, and enough room at a table that a group can settle in for three periods. Don Cherry's Sports Grill occupies part of a building at 3914 32 St in central Vernon that it shares with two other businesses, which is normal for the downtown blocks along the main routes through the city.
A sports oriented room works differently than a restaurant. Seating is usually split between the bar, high tops and proper tables, the kitchen tends to run later than a dining room would, and busy nights follow the schedule of whatever is being shown rather than the usual dinner rush. That is worth planning around. Call ahead if you are bringing a group for a game that matters, since the good sightlines fill first. It is also worth asking about minors, because in British Columbia what a licence allows varies from one room to another, and whether children can sit with the family is not something to discover at the door.
Vernon takes its winters seriously, and that shows up in what people do with a cold evening. The ski hill visible from town runs through the season, hockey fills the calendar, and a warm room with the game on is a reasonable answer to a dark January night at the north end of the valley. Downtown puts a place like this within walking distance of a good part of the city, including the older streets climbing East Hill, which matters more on a night out than it does at noon.
