Halloween Ideas and Events in Vernon
O'Keefe Ranch's Field of Screams and Davison Orchards' haunted mazes and pumpkin patch, plus Vernon Fire Rescue's annual safety tips.
Written by Warren Kroeker
Vernon's Halloween season runs on two working ranches that are genuinely different from each other, plus a fire department that publishes real safety guidance every year. One of those two - O'Keefe Ranch - is the closest thing the North Okanagan has to a proper horror attraction, and for 2026 it is the best-planned event in the city: fixed dates, published prices, and a spread of maze tiers that lets you choose how frightened your family actually wants to be. The other, Davison Orchards, is the daytime farm, and its pumpkin season is confirmed even though its haunted mazes are not.
The short version
- O'Keefe Ranch's Field of Screams: haunted trail and ghost tours plus a family corn maze, confirmed September 25 to November 1, 2026, with prices published.
- Davison Orchards: u-pick pumpkin tours confirmed for 2026 with free admission; its haunted mazes have not confirmed this year.
- Safety and fireworks: Vernon Fire Rescue's annual tips, and a citywide ban on fireworks and sky lanterns.

O'Keefe Ranch's Field of Screams
O'Keefe Ranch on Highway 97 North is the reason to drive out of Vernon for Halloween. The historic ranch runs its "Field of Screams" haunted trail and ghost tours alongside a family corn maze, on top of the usual ranch tours. The atmosphere is doing as much work as the actors - it is a working 19th-century ranch with a haunted overlay, which is a different proposition from a fairground scare maze, and the ghost-tour framing suits younger children who want atmosphere rather than volume.
For 2026 the ranch has published a full season, which is not always true this early: September 25 through November 1, with priced tiers that make it possible to pick your own level of fright. A single maze runs in the low twenties, a double is in the mid thirties, the all-mazes pass is around fifty, and there is a premium tier that climbs well past that on the biggest nights of October. If you want the real scare, book it rather than hoping - the good nights do fill.
O'Keefe Ranch is the one Vernon-area event with its 2026 dates and prices actually published - September 25 to November 1, priced by tier. If you only book one thing this Halloween, make it this, and buy the tier that matches the ages in your group rather than the one that sounds bravest.

Davison Orchards
Davison Orchards Country Village is the daytime half of a Vernon Halloween, and its pumpkin side is confirmed for 2026. U-Pick Pumpkin Tours run from October 1, with tractor-train rides out to the patch in the orchards, and general admission is free - which makes it the cheapest genuinely good family outing in the city. The Johnny Popper train is half the appeal for small kids: it is a slow ride through the orchard country to the pumpkin field, and it is the sort of thing they talk about on the drive home.
The caveat worth being straight about: Davison has run a "Field of Screams" with four haunted mazes aimed at teens and adults, and it is a well-regarded one - but as of late September 2026 the orchard has not confirmed its haunted mazes for this season, and the last confirmed information available is from previous years. Plenty of listings still carry the mazes as though they are running. If the haunted maze is the reason you would go, ring the orchard first.

Safety and fireworks
Vernon Fire Rescue Services publishes its own Halloween safety tips each year, and they are specific rather than generic - reflective costumes, battery-powered candles instead of real ones, and planning a route in advance rather than improvising it with a group of children at dusk. Both fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited citywide, so leave both at home; it is one of the stricter rules in the valley and the one most likely to be enforced, because it is the night the fire department is busiest.
Plan it this way: book O'Keefe for the evening, take the tractor train to Davison for the afternoon if the weather holds, and treat anything else in Vernon on a night out as a bonus. That is a full Halloween in one valley, and the part of it that is actually confirmed is enough to build a whole weekend around.

Your Halloween at a Glance
Saturday, October 31. The evening itself. If there is a supervised or organised event in the sections above, it is generally late afternoon and before full dark — check the city's or operator's own page for this year's exact window rather than assuming a date carries over.
Late October, weekends. Farms, mazes and pumpkin patches. These run on harvest and weather, so confirm before you drive out.
The whole month. Costume assembly at home. It sounds trivial and it is the single thing that most reliably goes wrong on the night.
What Is Not Happening
Everything above is either a confirmed recurring event or something the operator or the city publishes. If you have seen a Halloween listing that is not in this article, treat it as unverified until you can find it on the organiser's or the city's own site. Dates drift year to year, and a page that has not been updated for October is the most common reason people turn up somewhere closed.
Where a city publishes Halloween safety guidance, read it before the night rather than after it. The basics are the same everywhere: go in a group, carry a light, cross at a crosswalk rather than between parked cars, and check anything unwrapped before a child eats it.
