Plaza Motel
About Plaza Motel
The motel remains a distinct form of lodging, and the differences from a hotel are practical rather than cosmetic. Rooms open to the outside, you park in front of your door, and unloading a car full of beach gear, coolers and bikes takes one trip instead of several through a lobby and up an elevator. For a family passing through, or for anyone staying a week without needing a concierge, that arrangement is often the whole point.
Plaza Motel is at 1485 Main Street, along the corridor that runs the length of Penticton and links the downtown blocks with the routes out toward Skaha Lake at the south end. That puts it within a short drive of both lakes, the beaches and the shops, which is about as central as anywhere gets in a city this compact. Parking is far less of a struggle here than in a larger centre, and most of what a visitor wants is a few minutes away.
Summer is the season to plan around. Penticton fills from late June through August, and the mid August Peach Festival brings the busiest weekend of the year to the waterfront and the downtown streets, so rooms across the city are spoken for well in advance. When booking, ask about the number of beds, whether a fridge or kitchenette is available, and where the vehicle sits overnight if you are travelling with a trailer or a boat. Outside of high season the town is quieter and the same rooms are easier to come by.
