Swiss Sunset Inn
About Swiss Sunset Inn
Driving up from the border towns, a traveller reaches the south end of Penticton first, where the road comes in past Skaha Lake before the city proper opens out toward the bigger water at the far end. Swiss Sunset Inn is on that approach at 2604 Skaha Lake Road, which puts it near the southern beach and within a short drive of the downtown core.
Small lodgings out on a corridor like this one trade a waterfront doorstep for other advantages. Parking is generally simpler, the arterial gets you out of town quickly toward Oliver, Osoyoos and Keremeos, and the rooms sit back from the noise that comes with a beachfront street on a summer night. What varies from one place to the next is everything inside: room configuration, whether a kitchenette is available, laundry, ground floor access, and how they handle a trailer or a boat. A call to 250-492-8209 sorts all of it out in a couple of minutes.
Penticton runs on a seasonal clock, and lodging feels it more sharply than any other trade. July and August fill up, mid-August brings the Peach Festival that residents have been marking for generations, and rooms that are easy to come by in the shoulder months need real notice in high summer. The upside of the quieter seasons is a city that belongs to the people who live in it, with the benches above town still worth the drive and both lakes still there.

Where to shop in Penticton: small, walkable and mostly local
Penticton's shopping is smaller than Kelowna's and more its own thing: a Main Street of independents, specialty food shops that outclass their size, and Cherry Lane covering the mall tier.
