About The Rotten Grape
Ending an evening downtown with a glass of something local is less an event than a habit here, and The Rotten Grape gives that habit an address at 231 Bernard Avenue, at the lower end of downtown Kelowna's main street where the blocks run down toward the lake, the waterfront parks and the marina. Hotels, offices and the cultural venues nearby are all within an easy walk.
Small downtown rooms trade on being close at hand rather than on scale. They fill from the surrounding blocks, catch people before and after events, and tend to be busiest in the stretch between late afternoon and mid evening in summer, when the city centre is full of visitors and the heat has finally come off the pavement. What is on offer varies: some rooms are led by the kitchen, others by the bar, and plenty of them shift between the two as the evening goes on.
Getting there is easiest on foot. If you are already downtown or staying near the water, leave the car, because parking on Bernard is metered, competitive on an event night, and the parkades a block off the street are usually the faster option anyway. Coming in from Rutland, the Mission or the hillside neighbourhoods, budget more time than the distance suggests. For a group, or if you want to sit outside when the weather is good, it is worth asking about seating rather than arriving and hoping.
