Halloween Ideas and Events in Kelowna
Kelowna Corn Maze's three difficulty levels, Don-O-Ray and McMillan Farms, Black Mountain Haunted House, and a fireworks ban with a real fine attached.
Written by Warren Kroeker
Kelowna is genuinely well-served for Halloween - more working farms with corn mazes and haunted attractions than anywhere else in the Okanagan - and in 2026 several of the big operators have actually posted their dates and prices, which is not always true this early. A couple of details that get repeated about Kelowna Halloween are simply wrong, though, so they are worth correcting up front: the long-running corn maze is on Valley Road, not up on Dilworth Mountain, and the city's fireworks ban does not come with one fixed fine. With those two out of the way, here is what is actually real and worth your evening.
The short version
- Kelowna Corn Maze: a family day maze, a lit evening maze, and a weekend live-actor scare maze - on Valley Road, and 2026 dates are not posted yet.
- Don-O-Ray and McMillan Farms: two more working farms with mazes, pumpkin picking, and hayrides.
- Black Mountain Haunted House: at Hillcrest Farm Market, with separate daytime family and evening "scary" sessions - and the most exact schedule in town.
- Safety and fireworks: consumer fireworks are prohibited citywide, and there is no fixed published fine.

Kelowna Corn Maze
The Kelowna Corn Maze runs a gentle day maze for families, plus a lit and animatronic evening version, and a weekend "Scare Maze" with live actors for anyone who wants more of a fright. Having three tiers on one property is unusual for this region and worth knowing if your group has a wide age range. Two honest caveats, though. The maze is at 539 Valley Road - not on Dilworth Mountain, as a lot of write-ups have it. And as of late September 2026 the operator has not posted this season's specific dates, hours, or prices, so treat it as a "coming back, details to follow" rather than something to book around today.

Don-O-Ray and McMillan Farms
Don-O-Ray Haunted Farm Adventure runs a "Deadwood" ghost-town themed hedge maze alongside its pumpkin market and petting zoo through the month of October, and McMillan Farms offers a straightforward corn maze, pumpkin picking, and hayrides - a good pick if you want the classic farm outing without the haunted-attraction angle. Between the two, plus the maze above and Black Mountain, Kelowna has more genuine Halloween than anywhere else in the valley.

Black Mountain Haunted House
At Hillcrest Farm Market, Black Mountain Haunted House runs both a daytime "Family Fun" session - no actors, built for small children - and an evening "Evening Haunt" with live actors and the full scare, on the same dates and in the same building. The operator publishes a full October 2026 schedule with prices, so this is the one to book first and the one to actually plan the night around. Check which session you are buying, because the daytime and evening versions are genuinely different experiences.
Black Mountain is the one to book early. It runs a no-actors daytime session for little kids and a live-actor evening session in the same building on the same weekend - buy the wrong slot and you will spend an afternoon with a five-year-old in a haunted house.

Safety and fireworks
Kelowna's Halloween safety guidance - published with Kelowna Fire and Kelowna RCMP - covers costume flammability, street safety, and decoration fire hazards. The important part of the fireworks rule is that consumer fireworks are prohibited outright within city limits: consumer sales and consumer use are both banned, and permitted displays follow the conditions in Fire and Life Safety Bylaw 10760. What is not true is the idea that there is one fixed fine attached to it - enforcement runs through the city's bylaw notice bylaw, the amount varies by offence, and no single dollar figure is published anywhere. If you were planning to set off your own fireworks on the 31st, that is not happening in Kelowna - only licensed pyrotechnicians at permitted events may discharge anything.
So plan it like this: book Black Mountain early, because it is the best-documented night in the city and the good evening slots go. Put McMillan Farms or Don-O-Ray in the middle of October for a daytime farm run. Ignore the Dilworth Mountain maze tip - it is on Valley Road - and leave your own fireworks at home, because that part is not optional.

Your Halloween at a Glance
Saturday, October 31. The evening itself. If there is a supervised or organised event in the sections above, it is generally late afternoon and before full dark — check the city's or operator's own page for this year's exact window rather than assuming a date carries over.
Late October, weekends. Farms, mazes and pumpkin patches. These run on harvest and weather, so confirm before you drive out.
The whole month. Costume assembly at home. It sounds trivial and it is the single thing that most reliably goes wrong on the night.
What Is Not Happening
Everything above is either a confirmed recurring event or something the operator or the city publishes. If you have seen a Halloween listing that is not in this article, treat it as unverified until you can find it on the organiser's or the city's own site. Dates drift year to year, and a page that has not been updated for October is the most common reason people turn up somewhere closed.
Where a city publishes Halloween safety guidance, read it before the night rather than after it. The basics are the same everywhere: go in a group, carry a light, cross at a crosswalk rather than between parked cars, and check anything unwrapped before a child eats it.
