Grey Fox Brewery
About Grey Fox Brewery
Craft brewing has become part of how the Okanagan sells itself, sitting alongside the wineries as a second reason to spend an afternoon tasting. Grey Fox Brewery is found at 310 Hiram Walker Crt, up in Wilden, the forested master planned community in the hills above Glenmore.
Breweries vary far more than the shared tap room format suggests. Some brew a tight core lineup and sell most of it in cans through liquor stores, while others push seasonals and one offs that exist for a few weeks and never come back. Whether there is a tasting room with seating, whether growlers and crowlers can be filled, whether food is served or carried in from somewhere else, and whether the space takes private bookings all change from one address to the next. None of that is safe to assume from the outside, so a call before driving over is the sensible move.
The setting is worth planning for. Wilden was laid out around ponds, trails and newer single family streets in the hills above Glenmore, which makes the approach a climb away from the valley floor rather than a stop on a commercial strip. Anyone touring the region's drinks producers can pair a visit with the vineyards on the benches that climb behind the city, since the lake and the wine are the two things that bring most visitors to the Okanagan in the first place. Sort out a designated driver or a ride before setting off, which matters more when the trip home is a descent through hillside streets after dark.
