About Brittannia Brewing Co.
Out at 8999 Jim Bailey Road, above the Glenmore valley floor on the Wilden side of Kelowna, Brittannia Brewing Co. sits well up in the forested hills rather than on a shopping street. Brewing generally goes where there is room to work and space to move stock about, which is why the trade so often turns up on the edge of a city rather than in the middle of it. It is a long way in feel from the tasting rooms out on the wine benches, though the two industries share a great many of the same customers through a Kelowna summer.
Beer made at this scale involves more decisions than a menu ever shows. Water chemistry, yeast strains, and whether a brewery packages in cans, kegs or both all shape what you can actually carry home. For a visitor, the questions that pay off are simple: is there a counter open to the public today, can you fill a growler or buy a four pack, and is there anything available here that does not reach the liquor stores in town. Answers change from week to week in this trade, which is part of the appeal.
Getting there means driving, and Kelowna is a city where that is normal rather than a complaint. The hills north of Glenmore climb quickly, the views open up as you go, and the run back down toward the lake is short. Summer is the busy season across the whole valley and the roads carry it, so a midweek afternoon is a more relaxed proposition than a Saturday in August. In winter, the higher routes deserve a little more respect than the flats.
