Waterfront neighbourhoods run on two calendars. From June to September the beaches, the boat launch and the marina fill up, and from October the same streets belong to the people who live along them. A pub in that setting has to work for both, which is a harder trick than it sounds. Outboard Pub sits in Okanagan Landing at 7673 Okanagan Landing Rd, out where Okanagan Lake comes to its northern end.
The Landing was the steamboat port when freight moved on the water, and it has held a separate identity from the rest of Vernon ever since. That matters for a neighbourhood room, because the regulars are drawn from the houses within walking distance rather than from the city as a whole. Summer adds the boats, the campers and the day visitors on top of that. If you are arriving with a group on a warm weekend, or want to ask about seating, the kitchen or whether a game will be on, a call before setting out is the sensible move.
Getting there from the centre of Vernon takes ten to fifteen minutes on the road that curls southwest along the shore, and the drive is part of the appeal. Parking near the water is easy in the off season and much less so in July. Anyone out on the lake should remember that the rules about alcohol on a boat are unforgiving, so plan how you are getting home before you leave the dock. In winter the pace out here slows right down, which is exactly why some people prefer it then.
