About Yama Kitchen
North of the downtown core, the older houses and low industrial sheds of the North End have been filling steadily with small makers, studios and places to eat. Yama Kitchen sits in that pocket at 991 Richter St, a few minutes from the civic blocks but with a noticeably different feel to the street.
Small kitchens in districts like this tend to run lean. Seating is limited, a room fills in waves rather than steadily, and a quiet Tuesday looks nothing like a busy Friday. That is worth planning around: arriving early or late usually beats arriving at the peak, groups larger than four are far easier to accommodate with notice, and takeout is often the quickest route when the room is full. Asking what the kitchen is running that day is more useful in a place this size than it is anywhere larger, since a small operation can change direction easily.
The surrounding streets are residential and mixed use, so park with a little care and leave driveways clear. Getting here from downtown takes only a few minutes, and from Glenmore or Rutland it is a short hop across the valley floor. The North End is a district in transition rather than a finished destination, which is much of its appeal, and an errand here often turns up something else worth a stop on the same block. Checking ahead is sensible if you are driving in from another part of the city.
