About Waterfront Wines Restaurant
Sunset Drive threads through the blocks just back from the downtown waterfront, where apartments, offices and dining rooms sit within a short walk of the lake. Waterfront Wines Restaurant is at 1180 Sunset Drive, close enough to the parks along Okanagan Lake that a table and the water are only a few minutes apart on foot.
Putting wine in the name sets an expectation about the list, and a list is the part of a restaurant that changes most quietly. Vintages run out, growers change hands, and a bottle poured by the glass one month may be gone the next. The useful questions when you sit down are simple ones: what is open by the glass tonight, which valley producers are pouring at the moment, and whether the kitchen has a suggestion to run alongside a bottle you are curious about. Staff in a room like this generally expect to be asked.
Downtown fills up in summer. Tourism is one of the reasons people come to the valley in the first place, and the waterfront blocks feel it most between June and September, when evening tables go quickly and street parking near the parks turns into a slow lap of the block. Booking ahead is worth the two minutes it takes, especially for a group or for a Friday. In the shoulder seasons the same blocks empty out considerably, which is when a walk along the water before or after a meal is at its best.
