About Nagano Sushi
No two sushi restaurants are quite alike, and that is worth knowing before choosing one out of habit. Nagano Sushi is at 1298 Ellis Street, on the downtown Kelowna stretch where the core starts to loosen toward the North End and the parking gets noticeably easier than it is a few blocks south near Bernard.
Sushi restaurants split along a few lines that are worth understanding before choosing one. Some are counter operations built mainly around takeout, others run a full dining room. Some keep to nigiri, maki and sashimi, while others carry a broad Japanese menu with noodles, rice bowls, tempura and grilled dishes alongside. Ordering habits differ too, since a party ordering platters to share needs more notice than two people ordering at a table. Anyone with a shellfish allergy or a strict dietary requirement should raise it when ordering rather than after the food arrives, because shared preparation surfaces are the norm in this kind of kitchen.
The North End edge of downtown has been filling in for years as small makers, studios and cafes take over older buildings, and that has given this part of Ellis more evening life than it once had. Street parking is more forgiving here than a few blocks south, though the meters still apply through the working day. From the waterfront, the hotels or the apartment towers near the lake it is a walk of a few minutes. From Glenmore or Rutland it is a short drive in, and the approach avoids the worst of the Harvey Avenue traffic on the way.
