About The Jammery
North of the built up city, Highway 97 trades strip malls for orchard slopes, and 8038 Highway 97 puts The Jammery on that stretch below the forested hills of Wilden. It is a driving address rather than a strolling one, which suits a kitchen catching both local traffic and the steady movement of visitors between Kelowna and the north end of the valley. The run out from downtown is short enough to make it an easy detour on the way somewhere else.
A restaurant on the highway does a different job from one tucked into a downtown block. It catches people mid journey, families out for an afternoon, crews working the orchards and vineyards nearby, and travellers heading toward Vernon and the lakes beyond. Okanagan menus lean hard on what the valley grows, and the name over this door points squarely at fruit, which is no surprise in country where orchard benches climb both sides of the road. Room size, pace and the balance between a sit down meal and something quick vary a good deal from one highway stop to the next.
Summer is the busy stretch on this corridor. Traffic thickens from June onward and a table that is easy to get in March can mean a wait in August. A phone call is worth the minute it takes if you are bringing a group or driving out from the Mission or Rutland, and it is a fair moment to ask whether the kitchen keeps different hours in the shoulder seasons, whether there is outdoor seating when the weather is good, and whether anything can be packed to take away.
