About Pritchard Dining Hall
Feeding a hall full of students is a different job from running a restaurant, and it shows in everything from the layout of the servery to the pace of service. Pritchard Dining Hall is at 1255 International Mews, in the stretch of Glenmore that climbs toward the university, at an address it shares with another operation. The residence dining programme is described at food.ok.ubc.ca, under the Nechako meal plan.
Halls of this kind generally run on a meal plan rather than a menu price, with the details handled between the student and the residence rather than at a walk up counter. If you are visiting a student and hoping to eat alongside them, that is the point to settle beforehand, along with whether guests are accommodated at all and what a visitor is expected to pay. Anyone with an allergy or a dietary requirement should ask ahead as well, since large kitchens usually have a system for it but the system works better with notice.
The university sits well above the valley floor, in the hills that this part of Glenmore climbs toward, closer to the airport than to the lake, which makes the approach uphill from almost every direction. The route from downtown runs through Glenmore's family streets and newer subdivisions before opening onto the university grounds. Parking is paid and the lots fill on weekday mornings when classes are running. The rhythm of the whole place changes with the school calendar, busier when students are around and quieter over the summer, when conferences and short programmes take over instead.
