Buffalo Rouge Brewing Co.
About Buffalo Rouge Brewing Co.
Gordon Drive runs much of the length of Kelowna, from the North End down through the residential districts toward the Mission, and Buffalo Rouge Brewing Co. keeps an address on it at 1111 Gordon Drive, in that pocket of older houses and light industrial buildings now turning into studios, makers and small food operations. Two other businesses share the same address, which is common enough in that part of town.
A brewery with a public room is really two operations under one roof. Behind the wall there is a production schedule measured in weeks; in front of it there is a counter where whatever finished last is on. The upshot for a visitor is that the choice changes, sometimes considerably, from one month to the next, and asking what is new is a better question than asking what is on. It is also worth checking whether food is served, whether minors are allowed, and whether cans or growlers can be taken away, since those answers differ from one brewery to another.
The North End's advantage is proximity. Downtown is a few minutes south, the waterfront parks are walkable from much of the surrounding area, and the district has enough going on now that a visit can be combined with something else. Kelowna fills with visitors through the hot months and empties out again into a short grey winter, so the room you find in February will not be the room you find in July. Current information is kept at buffalorougebrewing.com.
