Tree Brewing
About Tree Brewing
Not every brewery treats a walk-in visitor the same way, which is worth knowing before setting out to find Tree Brewing. It operates from 1346 Water St, a block back from Okanagan Lake through the middle of downtown Kelowna, past the parks, the cultural venues and the office blocks that make up the city's civic heart. The stretch is genuinely walkable in a city where most trips still get made by car.
Breweries hold more than one kind of visit inside them. There is production, which is the actual business, and then there is whatever the public side of the operation runs, and that differs enormously from one place to the next. Some keep a full tasting room with seating and food, some pour flights at a counter, some fill growlers and sell cans to carry away, and plenty do a version of all three depending on the day and the season. Checking treebeer.com before you set out is the sensible move, particularly if you are bringing a group or hoping to sit down for a while.
The valley's brewing scene grew up alongside its wine industry, and both feed off the same summer visitor traffic. Downtown is at its busiest from June through September, when the waterfront fills and parking anywhere near Water Street becomes a project in itself. Walking or cycling in along the lake from Pandosy is often faster than driving and always less irritating. The quieter months from November onward are short and grey rather than snowbound in Kelowna, and they make for a very different and much easier visit.
