Fast Food & Takeout
Wok Box
About Wok Box
Takeout has to survive the drive home, which is a harder test than it sounds. Wok Box works out of 2306 6 Hwy on East Hill, sharing its address with one other business, on the road that runs east out of the city toward the farm country and the small towns past it.
A name like Wok Box points toward a particular format, a base, a protein and a sauce built to order and cooked fast, though it is worth confirming what is actually on the menu rather than assuming from the name alone. That kind of model travels well and scales down to one person or up to a family without much fuss. What varies from one kitchen to the next is heat level, portion size, and how comfortably the counter handles a request, so say up front if you need something without peanuts, without gluten or without meat. Ordering ahead by phone or through an app generally beats standing at the counter in the thick of a dinner rush.
East Hill is a slope of older character homes above the centre of town, and a hot meal collected on the way up the hill fits how people there actually live. Vernon runs colder in winter than the south end of the Okanagan, and a hot takeout meal carried in from the car has an obvious appeal in February. In summer this stretch of road changes character as traffic moves out of town toward the lakes and back again in the evening. If you are collecting food on the way to somewhere else, give the kitchen a realistic pickup time rather than an optimistic one.
