About Sun Country Cycles
The Okanagan Rail Trail finishes its run in Vernon, which puts a good many bicycles at the north end of the valley, and adds the touring riders who arrive here having pedalled the length of it. Sun Country Cycles operates from 1340 Kalamalka Lake Rd on East Hill, in a building shared with another business, and answers at +1 250 545 8775 or through https://www.suncountrycycle.com/.
A bike shop is really two businesses stitched together. The retail half covers complete bikes across road, gravel, mountain, commuter, electric and children's categories, along with helmets, shoes, racks, lights, tubes and the small parts that fail at inconvenient moments. The workshop half covers tune-ups, wheel truing, brake and drivetrain work, suspension and hydraulic service, flat repairs and the annual once-over that keeps a bike from becoming a project. Shops differ in which brands they carry, which specialist repairs they take on and whether they service electric bikes, since those need particular tools and training. Ask about the current turnaround on service before leaving a bike, and about fit if you are buying.
Riding here runs on the seasons. Spring brings everybody's bike out of the shed at once, which is when the service queue is longest and when booking ahead pays for itself. Summer heat pushes rides to the ends of the day, the climbs off Kalamalka Lake Rd are steep enough to justify low gearing, and the trail south along the lake is the reason many riders come to this end of the valley at all. Cold storage over winter is hard on batteries and tires, so a check before the first spring ride is sensible.

Vernon neighbourhoods explained: uphill east, waterfront west
Vernon organizes itself by elevation: the downtown grid on the valley floor, East Hill's character houses climbing behind it, Okanagan Landing running down to the water, and the Commonage filling in to the south.
