Camp Road climbs above the lake through orchard and vine ground, and the wineries strung along it sit close enough together that a visitor can take in several in an afternoon. Okanagan Centre is the oldest looking corner of Lake Country, a preserved settlement of heritage buildings on the slope with a quiet shore road running below along Okanagan Lake. It sits at the southern edge of the district, closest of the four communities to Kelowna. The benchland behind carries the vines, and from most addresses up here the water is a long blue presence below rather than something you walk down to. September and October are the working months on this slope, when the harvest is on and the roads carry tractors as well as cars, so allow for both.
