Blind Tiger Vineyards
About Blind Tiger Vineyards
Blind tiger was Prohibition slang in North America for a room where drink changed hands without a licence, usually behind some flimsy pretext. Blind Tiger Vineyards puts the phrase to more legitimate use from 11014 Bond Road, up on the benchland of Okanagan Centre.
Vineyard operations in the valley often sell a large share of what they make at their own door, and that shapes how a visit should be planned. The pour list moves through the year as lots run out, so what was open in spring may well be gone by the fall. Ring 250-766-0622 or check blindtigervineyards.ca to see where things stand before driving out. Two other questions are worth raising in the same conversation: whether tasting is seated or standing, and whether cases carry a discount, since that is usually where the difference in price sits rather than on single bottles.
Bond Road threads through the southern community of the district, where old orchard blocks and newer plantings share the same slopes above Okanagan Lake. It is a short hop off Highway 97 and only a few minutes from Wood Lake and the beaches along its western shore. Kelowna lies south down the highway, Vernon lies north, and the wine addresses of Lake Country sit close enough together that a half day covers several of them without hurrying. Bring a driver who is not tasting and the whole afternoon becomes considerably easier to manage.
