About West Coast Grill & Oyster Bar
Fresh oysters this far from any coast depend on what a truck managed to bring in that morning, which is the first thing worth asking about at West Coast Grill and Oyster Bar. The kitchen sits at 1675 Abbott St, in the older blocks of downtown Kelowna and a short walk from the parks that line Okanagan Lake, in a building shared with one other business.
A kitchen that puts oysters in its name is tied to whatever arrives that week, and coastal supply is never quite the same twice. Deliveries reach the valley from the far side of the mountains, so the selection on a Tuesday and the selection on a Saturday can look rather different. Asking what came in is not a nuisance question, it is the right one, and shellfish allergies are worth stating clearly at the point of ordering. For a larger group, arranging things in advance gives the kitchen a chance to plan rather than improvise.
The downtown setting shapes a visit as much as the cooking does. Between June and September the waterfront blocks carry residents and visitors at once, evening tables are spoken for early, and parking within a block of the lake becomes a small competition. Outside those months the same streets are calm and walkable, and the museums and civic buildings a few minutes away make for an easy hour before or after a meal. Anyone driving in from Rutland or the Mission should allow for the crawl along the main corridor at the end of the working day.
