Tonics Pub & Grill
About Tonics Pub & Grill
Downtown Kelowna keeps its licensed rooms close together, which is a genuine convenience in a city where nearly everything else needs a car. Tonics Pub and Grill sits at 1654 Ellis St, on the stretch where the office core begins to give way to the older houses and light industrial sheds of the North End.
A pub with a grill attached is a different proposition from a bar, and it is worth knowing which version you are walking into. The kitchen tends to set the tone earlier in the day, and the room usually changes character as the evening goes on. The questions that shape a visit are practical ones: whether the kitchen runs later than the bar, how large a group can be seated without notice, whether there is a patio and how it works in shoulder season, and what happens on nights when a game is on. Those answers matter more to how an evening goes than anything else you could ask.
Ellis Street runs a block back from Water Street and the lake, so this is an easy walk from the waterfront parks and the cultural venues in the middle of downtown. That counts for something in a spread out city. Anyone staying near the water can reach it on foot, while anyone driving in from Glenmore, Dilworth or the Mission is looking at ten minutes plus the hunt for a space. Summer evenings downtown stay warm and busy well past sunset, and the winter months are short, grey and much quieter, which suits plenty of people better.
