O'Flannigan's Liquor Store
About O'Flannigan's Liquor Store
Queensway Avenue cuts through the busiest few blocks of downtown Kelowna, close to the transit exchange and a short walk from the waterfront parks. O'Flannigan's Liquor Store carries the address at 319 Queensway Avenue, within reach on foot of most of the downtown hotels and apartment blocks, which is the position a city centre retailer in this trade tends to hold.
The Okanagan complicates liquor retail in a way most of the country does not, because the valley makes the wine. A shop here competes with tasting rooms scattered up and down the benches, and what a good one offers in return is range: bottles from producers whose cellar doors are an hour apart, alongside the beer, spirits and mixers you would expect anywhere. If you are buying a gift or a case to carry home, it is reasonable to ask what is on the shelf from which growing area, and whether anything can be held aside. Identification rules in British Columbia are strict, so bring it.
Parking downtown works the way it always does here. Metered on the street, easier the further back from the lake you go, and tight through summer evenings when the beaches empty into the restaurants. If you are carrying on up the valley afterwards, remember that the run to the Mission, out to Rutland or up to Black Mountain is short but the rules about it are not lenient. British Columbia enforces impaired driving hard, and a taxi from this block to almost anywhere in the city costs a great deal less than the alternative.
