The View Winery & Vineyard
About The View Winery & Vineyard
Elevation does a lot of the talking in the eastern benchland above the Lower Mission, where the streets give way to open slopes with a wide outlook back over the lake. The View Winery and Vineyard sits up on that higher ground at 2287 Ward Road, a short climb from the residential streets below. The name points squarely at vines and a view, which fits the setting even before you know anything else about what stands behind the door.
Liquor stores through this part of the valley range widely in what stands behind the counter. Some are simple retail rooms carrying bottles from producers all over the Okanagan, others are attached to an actual vineyard and pour tastings on site, and the difference matters if what you are after is a tasting rather than just a bottle to take home. What a given property offers beyond the shelf, from tastings to food service to shipping, is worth asking about directly rather than guessing from the name or the view.
Ring 250-860-0742 or check theviewwinery.com before making the trip, particularly if you are coming from outside the Lower Mission or bringing a group. Plan the driving before you plan anything else, decide ahead of time who is not drinking, and remember that the roads up on the benches are narrower and slower than the city grid below. Bring water and shade in July and August, when the valley heat sits heavily on the open slopes with very little shelter to be found.
