About Soy
Dinner in the Pandosy district usually starts with a walk rather than a second parking space. Soy occupies part of a building at 2900 Pandosy St that it shares with two other businesses, an ordinary arrangement along a strip where narrow frontages sit shoulder to shoulder between the apartments and the lake. South of downtown, this is the closest thing Kelowna has to a neighbourhood high street.
Restaurants here serve two crowds at once. In summer the beaches a few blocks west fill the tables with visitors and day trippers, many arriving late and hungry after the water; the rest of the year the same rooms belong to people who live within walking distance. That mix shapes how a kitchen runs, and it is why a Tuesday in February and a Saturday in July can feel like two different restaurants in the same room.
A few habits help if you are planning an evening in this part of town. Side street parking fills early once the weather turns warm, so walking or cycling in is often faster than circling. Groups larger than four are worth phoning about, since the older buildings along Pandosy were not built for banquet seating. Ask what seating is available when the evening is warm, since restaurants in a lakeside neighbourhood fill quickly once the weather turns fine. And if you are coming down from Glenmore or across from Rutland, allow extra time in July and August, when traffic on the routes toward the water slows to a crawl and the last ten blocks take longer than the first three kilometres.
