Hector's Casa
About Hector's Casa
South of the downtown core, Pandosy Street settles into a village of low rise shops, apartments and restaurants within a short walk of the lake. Hector's Casa belongs to that stretch, in a neighbourhood where people arrive on foot as often as by car and where the dinner crowd changes character completely between August and February.
Eating out in a district like this follows the season more than the clock. Through the summer the beaches two blocks away fill the sidewalks and the dinner hour stretches late; in the shoulder months the room belongs to the neighbourhood again and a table is easy to come by. Bringing a group is worth a booking rather than a hope, and it is always sensible to confirm by phone whether the kitchen can work around allergies or dietary needs. Seating outside, takeout and delivery arrangements differ from one restaurant to the next along the same block, so nothing should be assumed from a neighbour's sign.
The door is at 2911 Pandosy St, and parking in the village is a mix of short stretches of street parking and small lots off the main road, scarce on hot afternoons when the beaches are full. Coming from downtown the drive takes only a few minutes down Pandosy or Richter; from Rutland or the hillside neighbourhoods, allow longer and expect Harvey Avenue to be the bottleneck. Anyone staying in the Mission can simply walk, which is much of this district's appeal, and the greenway and beaches nearby make it easy to build a whole evening around a meal.
