About Rustic Reel Brewing Company
A brewery taproom does not need to sit among the busiest restaurant blocks to find its crowd, and Rustic Reel Brewing Company proves it at 760 Vaughan Avenue, on a quieter downtown street a short walk from the offices, restaurants and waterfront parks that make up most of Kelowna's core.
That taproom format is a different proposition from an ordinary pub. The beer is made on the premises, the range shifts as tanks empty and seasonal batches come and go, and much of the room is given over to whatever is pouring that week rather than a fixed lineup. Food service varies widely across the trade, from a full kitchen to a short snack menu to a rotating truck at the door, so ask before you build an evening around dinner. Cans and growlers to take away are common, as is a tasting flight for anyone still working out what they like.
Brewing has become part of the wider Okanagan drink scene without displacing the valley's wine industry, and pockets of downtown away from the main restaurant strip are where some of that activity has settled. The blocks around Vaughan Avenue are quiet during the day and busier after work and on weekends. Parking is easier here than near the waterfront, though if you are tasting, the sensible plan is a cab or a designated driver rather than a shuffle between lots.
