About Micro Bar

Small rooms suit a downtown street better than large ones. A compact restaurant can run a shorter list, change it more often, and put the cooking within a few feet of the people eating, which changes the feel of a meal more than any amount of decorating does.

Micro Bar occupies 297 Bernard Ave, on the run of storefronts that carries most of the foot traffic through central Kelowna and slopes gently down toward the waterfront parks. This part of town holds the offices and the cultural venues as well as the eating and drinking, so the street reads differently depending on the hour: workers at midday, a slower drift in the late afternoon, and in summer a steady flow of people walking up from the lake.

The name points toward a compact room, and where that is the case, arriving early or late is the difference between sitting down and standing on the sidewalk, particularly through July and August when the valley is hot, dry and full of visitors. If there are more than four of you, ask about seating before everyone converges, since narrow storefronts tend to have more two tops than long tables. Parking downtown is the other thing worth planning; a lot a couple of blocks off Bernard usually costs less time than circling for a space out front. Anyone coming from Rutland, Glenmore or up the Mission should allow more time than the map suggests on a warm evening.
