About House of Rose Winery
Garner Road climbs east of Rutland into the Black Mountain benches, where the ground rises off the valley floor toward the ridge and newer subdivisions give way to older agricultural parcels. House of Rose Winery works from 2270 Garner Road on that slope, up among the orchard benches that back the city and still hold working agricultural land inside the boundary rather than out beyond it.
Okanagan wine country is built around the growing year, and a visit lands differently depending on the month. Spring is quiet and unhurried. Summer brings the crowds, the heat and the long dry evenings the valley is known for. September and October are the busiest weeks anywhere in a wine district, with the fruit coming off the vines and a year of work arriving all at once. Late autumn brings the hard frosts that make late harvest picking possible this far north. Tasting rooms in the region generally pour a flight for a small fee, often waived against a purchase, and many sell bottles at the door in quantities too small to reach a shelf in town.
Anyone planning a tour should take the hillside roads seriously. The benches above Rutland are steep, the lanes narrow, and winter conditions arrive up there before they do downtown, so a call to +1-877-765-0802 before setting out is sensible outside the summer season. Groups, tours and anything involving a bus usually need arranging in advance, and a designated driver or a booked car is simply part of the plan. Shipping rules vary by province if you want a case sent home. What is currently available is set out at houseofrose.ca.
