About De Bakker's Kitchen
Dining along Glenmore Drive means eating where people actually live. This is the road that links downtown to the Glenmore valley and the hillside neighbourhoods beyond it, a steady flow of commuters, school runs and residents rather than a tourist strip, and the food along it answers to a local crowd first and to visitors second.
You will find this kitchen at 1014 Glenmore Drive, near the lower end of that corridor where the valley floor meets the slopes of Dilworth Mountain. It is a short drive from downtown and from the Harvey corridor, and within easy reach of Wilden and the newer streets climbing north through the hills. Parking on this stretch is generally straightforward, which is not something that can be said of every restaurant address in Kelowna during July and August.
Independent restaurants here work to a seasonal rhythm whether they intend to or not. Summer brings visitors and long light evenings, the shoulder months quieten considerably, and menus often shift with what the valley is growing, since the orchards and market gardens are close enough that produce can arrive the same week it is picked. A phone call before you set out is a fair habit, particularly outside the summer months and particularly if you are bringing a group or need a table at a specific hour. It is also the easiest way to ask the questions that matter to you, whether that is takeout, a dietary restriction, or how busy the room tends to get on the evening you have in mind.
