Barn Owl Brewing
About Barn Owl Brewing
Out along the southern end of Lakeshore Road, where the Lower Mission thins into orchard and vineyard land above the beaches, 4629 Lakeshore Road is the address for Barn Owl Brewing. It shares the site with one other business, a common enough arrangement on this part of the bench, where agricultural parcels have made room for small production buildings and places to taste what comes out of them.
Breweries tend to be two things at once, a production side and a room where people sit and drink, and the two halves run on different rules. Growler fills, can sizes and what is allowed to leave with you all depend on what happens to be in tank that week, so a call to 778-760-9349 is the reliable way to find out what is pouring before you commit to the drive out. Ask about seating if you are bringing a group, ask whether the space suits children or dogs if that applies to your party, and ask about food, since some tasting rooms run a kitchen, some bring in a truck and some are happy for you to carry your own in. The site at barnowlbrewing.ca is the other place to check.
The setting is much of the point out here. Summer on this stretch of the lake is hot, dry and busy, and the road narrows as it winds south, so allow more time than the distance suggests and settle the question of a designated driver or a taxi before you leave. From downtown Kelowna it is roughly a twenty minute run south through Pandosy and the Mission on a clear afternoon.
