Truck 59 Cider House
About Truck 59 Cider House
Apples were planted across these benches long before grapes took over the slopes, and cider is one of the ways that older orchard economy still shows up in a glass. Pressing fruit into something dry, sharp and drinkable sits closer to farming than to manufacturing, and the character of a batch follows the trees it came from and the year it grew in.
Truck 59 Cider House is at 3887 Brown Road, on the Gellatly Bay side of West Kelowna where the lakeside crescent and its shoreline walkway lie beneath the old volcanic cone of Mount Boucherie. That puts it in easy reach of the beaches and the boat launches, and a few minutes from the Westbank strip for anyone making a loop of the west side rather than a single stop. Calls go to 778 754 1551, and there is more at truck59ciderhouse.com.
Tasting rooms on this side of the lake keep a rhythm set by the season. Summer brings visitors off the bridge and along the bench roads, while the shoulder months and winter run quieter and often on shorter days, so a call before setting out makes sense if you are driving in from Kelowna or down from the smaller communities along Westside Road. If cider is new to you, ask what is dry and what is sweet, ask which fruit went into it, and ask what travels well should you want to take bottles home. Groups, tours and anyone hoping to settle in for a while will do better letting someone know they are coming than arriving unannounced on a busy afternoon.
