Kind Brewing
About Kind Brewing
Small batch brewing comes down to water, grain, hops and the patience to leave a tank alone until it is ready. Kind Brewing works that trade from 2405 Main St, on the Gellatly Bay side of West Kelowna, where the lakeside crescent of beaches and boat launches sits below the vineyard slopes of Mount Boucherie.
West Kelowna is the youngest city in the valley, incorporated in 2007 and a city only since 2015, and it has grown into a place that makes a good deal of what it drinks. Beer now sits alongside the wine and cider that the benches above town are better known for, and a brewery here tends to draw two different crowds. There are residents from Westbank, Smith Creek and Glenrosa looking for somewhere close to home, and there are visitors who have spent an afternoon on the water and want a cold glass before the drive back over the bridge.
Breweries differ a great deal in what they offer the public. Some pour flights and pints on site, some sell cans and growler fills to take away, and plenty do both on a rhythm that shifts with the season and with whatever is currently in tank. Seating, patio space, food service and whether children or dogs are welcome all vary from one operation to the next, so a quick call before setting out is sensible if you are coming down from the hillside subdivisions or crossing from Kelowna. It is also worth asking what is available for filling on the day, since a growler program depends entirely on what happens to be pouring.
