About City Furniture
Furniture is a slow purchase and a heavy one, which makes it unlike almost everything else on a shopping list. A sofa gets sat on, measured, argued about and then delivered weeks later. Stores in this trade differ mainly in what they hold on the floor versus what they order in, how long that ordering takes, and whether delivery and removal of the old piece are part of the deal or a separate line at the bottom of the invoice.
City Furniture is at 5401 Anderson Way in Vernon. The city does the comparison shopping for the whole North Okanagan, and furniture is exactly the sort of purchase that draws people in from the surrounding districts. Nobody drives an hour for a carton of milk, but they will for a bed, and they will look at three places in an afternoon before making up their minds.
Measure first. It sounds obvious and it is still the most common reason a delivery goes wrong, particularly in the older character homes up on East Hill, where stairwells and doorways were not built with a sectional in mind. When you call, ask about lead times on anything not already on the floor, ask what delivery covers and whether it reaches out to Okanagan Landing or across the Commonage, and ask what happens if the piece will not fit through the door. A store that answers that last question clearly is telling you something useful about how it works.
