About DavidsTea
Loose leaf tea gets bought differently than coffee. You are choosing by weight and by smell, usually with something open on the counter to sniff, and a small amount goes a long way once it is home in a tin. DavidsTea is at 4900 27 Street in the heart of Vernon, sharing its address with another business, in the stretch of the city that handles most of the North Okanagan's comparison shopping.
Shops in this line generally sell leaf by weight along with the equipment that goes with it, infusers, filters, pots and travel mugs, and many keep a counter for making up a cup to carry out. What differs between one and the next is the depth of what they carry and how much guidance comes with it, and that guidance is the part worth using. Water temperature and steeping time change a cup more than most people realise, and a green tea treated like a black one turns bitter for reasons that have nothing to do with the leaf. If you are buying for someone else, it is reasonable to ask what forgives a heavy hand and what does not.
Tea reads as a winter purchase here, and Vernon has more winter than the south end of the valley does. The city sits where the Okanagan opens into hayfields and pasture, the days shorten early behind East Hill, and the months between the lake season and the first thaw are long enough that people build small comforts into them. Downtown is where that shopping happens, drawing in people from Swan Lake, the Commonage and the townships beyond.
