About Wings
Some meals are decided by the table rather than by the menu. A group meeting up after work, a family that wants everyone fed without a long wait, two people looking for a spot that will seat them without a reservation. Wings sits at 5200 Anderson Way, on the commercial side of Vernon where the lots are wide and getting parked is not part of the evening's planning.
A restaurant lives or dies on a handful of practical things rather than on ambition. Whether you can get a table at seven on a Friday without booking. Whether the kitchen turns a takeout order around at the same speed as a dine in one. Whether there is room for ten people without a week of notice. Whether there is something a child will actually eat, and something for the person at the table who does not eat meat. Those are the questions worth putting to whoever picks up the phone, and they get answered faster that way than by searching.
The city's rhythm shows up in its restaurant rooms. Summer brings the lake crowd, visitors moving between Kalamalka and Okanagan Lake, and cyclists coming off the end of the rail trail with an appetite. Winter fills the same seats with a different set of people, down off the ski hill or in from the surrounding farm country for an evening in town. Weekends and long holidays are the predictable crunches. If you are bringing a group, call first, and if you are ordering out, ask how late the kitchen is running, because closing times move with the season in this part of the valley.
