Alchemist distiller
About Alchemist distiller
Small batch distilling is a newer trade in this valley than winemaking, and it works to a different rhythm. A still runs in batches, spirits often need time in tank or barrel before they are worth selling, and the retail side is frequently a single room attached to the production floor. Alchemist Distiller works from #101-18006 Bentley Road in Summerland, down in the lower town below the bench, so the unit number is the thing to watch for on arrival.
What a distiller makes varies widely. Some build their spirits from local fruit, which in this valley means orchard surplus and pressings that would otherwise go to waste. Others assemble a gin around botanicals, or age something for years before a release. Because of that spread, the useful questions are simple ones: what is available to buy at the moment, whether tasting is offered on the day you plan to come, and whether bottles can be collected outside the busier months. Provincial liquor rules also shape what a producer may pour and sell on its own premises, and the answer can shift from one season to the next.
Downtown Summerland makes a practical base for a stop like this. The heritage storefronts, the waterfront park and the marina sit within a few blocks of one another at the foot of the bench, and Penticton is a short drive around the lake. Visitors combining a distillery call with the wineries and cideries further up the hill should plan the driving accordingly. Locals collecting a bottle on the way home have the shortest trip of anyone.
