About SummerGate Winery
Prairie Valley is the inland basin behind the bench, holding the schools and sports fields and the road that runs west into orchard country. SummerGate Winery sits within it at 11612 Morrow Avenue, off the lake and away from the highway traffic that funnels through the lower town on a summer weekend.
An inland address changes the character of a visit. It is a quieter approach than the lakeshore, usually with easier parking, but it also means the property is a deliberate destination rather than somewhere you pass. Tasting arrangements differ across the valley, so a call to 250-583-9973 or a look at summergate.ca before leaving is sensible: whether the room takes walk-ins, whether appointments are needed for groups, what the seasonal schedule looks like, and how purchases can be shipped or collected.
Summerland rewards a slow itinerary. From Prairie Valley the roads climb toward Giant's Head with its parks and viewpoints, drop to the waterfront park and marina in the lower town, and run west toward Garnet Valley and the ranch and forest country beyond. Cherries, stone fruit, apples and grapes all grow on this bench, and the harvest calendar runs from early summer through to the cool nights of autumn, when the whole bench is busiest with picking and pressing. Winter is mild by Canadian standards and much quieter across the whole west side of the lake.

Eating in Summerland: Victoria Road, the cove and the benches above
Summerland eats in three pockets that barely touch: the brick main street on Victoria Road, Shaughnessy's Cove down by the beach, and the winery kitchens on the benches above town. Where each one wins.

Summerland neighbourhoods explained: five corners of a bench town
Summerland divides cleanly into five: the Victorian downtown, the Giant's Head slopes full of wineries, Prairie Valley's working corridor, rural Garnet Valley and quiet Trout Creek across the water.
