About The Cellar
Sitting down to eat in the middle of a compact downtown has an obvious advantage: everything else is already within reach. The Cellar is found at 412 Main St, on the commercial run that carries most of Penticton's foot traffic, a few blocks back from the water at the north end of the city and within a short walk of the side streets around it.
Restaurants along this corridor work both sides of the local economy. Penticton is the service centre of the South Okanagan, so weekday lunches draw people who are in town for the hospital, an office, a supplier or the schools, arriving from Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos and the rural areas between them. Evenings and weekends in summer bring an entirely different crowd off the beaches, the channel and the wine roads on the benches above town. The same room serves both, and the pace changes noticeably from one season to the next.
Kitchens differ in ways a passing glance at the front does not reveal, which is why the practical questions are the ones worth asking. Whether reservations are taken and how far in advance, how a group of eight or ten is handled, whether there is outdoor seating once the weather turns, and how the schedule adjusts after the visitor season ends will all shape a visit more than anything else. If you are coming from out of town, count on the walk being short once the car is parked, because the core here is small enough that almost nothing in it is more than a few minutes on foot.

Where to shop in Penticton: small, walkable and mostly local
Penticton's shopping is smaller than Kelowna's and more its own thing: a Main Street of independents, specialty food shops that outclass their size, and Cherry Lane covering the mall tier.
