About Lachi
Downtown restaurants in a small city carry more weight than their size suggests, since they are where meetings happen, where families stop on the way through and where visitors form their impression of a place. Lachi sits at 504 Main St, in the middle of the commercial core a few blocks back from the water.
A kitchen on the main street works two quite different trades. Weekday lunches come from the offices and shops nearby and move fast; evenings and weekends are slower, longer and more likely to involve a booking. It is worth a phone call for a group of any size, and worth asking about takeout if the plan is to carry a meal down to the beach on a warm evening. Anyone with an allergy or a dietary restriction is better served raising it at the point of ordering than hoping.
Main Street is where Penticton concentrates itself, with the Okanagan Lake beaches and the channel entrance a short walk north and Munson Mountain and its hillside letters visible above. Parking downtown is generally easy outside the summer peak and Peach Festival week in the middle of August, when the whole core fills. The rest of the year the pace is what people who live here appreciate, unhurried enough that a table is usually there when it is wanted and the walk to it is a pleasant one.
