Lower Debeck Road drops away from the upper bench toward Okanagan Lake, and Serendipity Winery is at 990 Lower Debeck Road, within the band of vineyard land running the length of the Naramata slope. The village lies a little further along, a couple of blocks of store, hotel, tasting rooms and galleries set close to the water, with Penticton at the far end of the winding lakeshore road.
Wineries are not interchangeable, even neighbouring ones. Production size, the range of styles made, whether any food is available, whether there is shade or seating outdoors, and how a tasting is actually run all vary from one gate to the next. Some places take walk-ins happily and some work strictly by appointment, and a small producer can sell right through a wine before the season ends.
The useful call is 250-496-5290, or serendipitywinery.com, and the useful questions are whether you need to book, how long a tasting takes, what it involves and what the parking looks like for the number of cars you are bringing. Groups should ask well ahead of the day. Anyone cycling the Kettle Valley Railway grade should remember that the return from the lake side of the bench is all uphill, and that an afternoon of tasting and a long climb combine badly. Sorting out a driver in advance is the ordinary practice on these roads, and for good reason.
