About Daydreamer Wines
Off the main bench road, Smethurst Road runs into the patchwork of vines and old orchard blocks that covers the slope above Okanagan Lake. Daydreamer Wines works from 1305 Smethurst Road, in the middle of a stretch of the Naramata Bench where wine and fruit growing have shared the same ground for generations. The bench is narrow, the side roads are short, and the difference between one grower and the next can be a few hundred metres of soil.
Small wine operations in this valley vary enormously in scale and in how they receive visitors. Some pour by appointment in a working space beside the tanks, some run a purpose built room with a patio over the vines, and volumes can be modest enough that what is available in April is gone by September. Selection follows the vintage rather than the calendar, which is the main reason a call before driving out is time well spent.
Phone ahead on 778-514-0026 to check whether tastings are running, whether a booking is expected and whether a group of your size can be handled. It is also the right moment to ask about parking, since the bench side roads are narrow and shoulder space is limited. Getting here means either the climb up from Penticton along the lakeshore or the run down from the top of the bench, and both take longer than the distance suggests. Cyclists on the Kettle Valley grade should factor in the return climb back to the rail bed, and anyone tasting should sort out a driver first.
