About Urban Fare
A full grocery run is one of the few errands that pulls people away from the beach in the Lower Mission, if only for the time it takes to fill a cart. Urban Fare sits at 3155 Lakeshore Rd, one of four businesses at that number, on the stretch that runs south from Pandosy along the water, past beaches, schools and the quiet residential streets of a district that spends much of its year outdoors.
Grocery stores separate themselves at the edges rather than in the middle. Staples are staples anywhere. What differs is the prepared food counter, the bakery, the deli, whether there is a butcher who will cut to order, and how much shelf space goes to the specialist items you cannot pick up elsewhere. If you are shopping for something particular, asking at the counter about ordering it in is usually quicker than walking the aisles twice. Anyone catering for a group should ask what needs notice, since platters and larger prepared orders generally do.
The Mission changes character with the season, and shopping here changes along with it. Summer brings beach traffic down Lakeshore, the parking fills, and half the carts are being packed for a cooler rather than a kitchen. The valley's fruit season runs from cherries in early summer through peaches and apples into the autumn, and the stands on the benches above the lake are worth a detour while they are open. Winter empties the road out again. Whatever the month, this is a short trip for anyone in Pandosy, Lower Mission or Kettle Valley, and a longer haul from anywhere north of downtown.

Where to shop in Kelowna: three centres and a market
Kelowna's retail splits into three non-overlapping centres, and knowing which one you need saves an afternoon of driving. Bernard's boutiques, Pandosy's independents, the highway belt's boxes, and the farmers market above them all.

Kelowna neighbourhoods explained: from Downtown to Rutland
Kelowna draws its map in sectors and argues about the names: Downtown towers, the Pandosy village, Dilworth's high ground, Rutland's self-contained grid and the bench neighbourhoods climbing toward the wineries.

Where the Okanagan actually shops, city by city
Retail in this valley is not spread evenly. It concentrates on a handful of streets and one or two malls per city, strung along Highway 97 like beads on a wire. Here is which street to drive to in each city, and what you will and will not find there.
