About Tang Dynasty
Takeout is the backbone of a lot of neighbourhood restaurants, and Tang Dynasty fills that role from 948 McCurdy Rd in Rutland, in a building it shares with another business on streets close to some of the valley's more affordable housing. Rutland runs on its own town centre strip rather than downtown, which is part of why so many households out here treat the district as a self-contained place to shop and eat.
The name points to a Chinese kitchen, and restaurants under that banner rarely work from a single template in a city this size. One may lean toward a Cantonese register of steamed fish, roast meats and clear soups, another toward a northern style of noodles, dumplings and braises, and a third toward the peppery Sichuan end of the range. Combination plates, family-style sharing platters and a faster lunch service are all common in restaurants of this kind, though which of them a given room offers changes from one to the next. Anyone ordering for a crowd, or cooking around an allergy, does best to say so as the order goes in.
Getting here means a drive for most of the city, since Kelowna spreads along the lake and up the slopes rather than folding into a tight centre. The upside is that parking in Rutland is generally less of a contest than it is downtown in summer. Takeout tends to bunch at the same evening hours everywhere, so ordering ahead of the rush, or a little after it, usually shortens the wait. Coming from the Mission or the hillside neighbourhoods, allow for the extra crosstown minutes on a warm evening.
