About Memphis Blues
Choosing a restaurant for a group usually comes down to questions a menu cannot answer: how many chairs fit around one table, whether a booking is needed on a weekend, and whether the kitchen slows down once a big order goes through. None of that shows up on a sign out front, so the only way to find out is to ask before you go.
Memphis Blues is at 289 Bernard Avenue, in Rutland, which fills the northeast of Kelowna as one of the city's largest residential areas, with its own busy town centre strip and some of the more affordable housing in the valley. The city spreads along the lake and up the slopes rather than sitting in a tight grid, so anyone coming over from the Mission, from Glenmore or from the hillside streets above should treat this as a trip across town rather than a walk around the corner.
Timing is the other thing worth planning. Summers in the valley are hot and dry, the roads carry visitors as well as the people who live here, and a drive that takes ten minutes in February can take twice that on an August evening. Eating early, or leaving the car behind if you are close enough to walk, takes the worst of that out of the trip. If there are more than a few of you, ask about seating before you set out, since dining rooms differ a great deal in how they handle a long table. Worth asking too whether an order can be put together to take home, and how much notice that needs.
