Skogie's Self-serve Wash
About Skogie's Self-serve Wash
Self-serve bays put the whole job in your hands, which is exactly why some drivers prefer them. Skogie's Self-serve Wash is at 1830 Underhill St, on the Dilworth side of Kelowna below the hillside streets that wrap the mountain.
The method rewards a bit of order. Rinse the loose grit off first so the brush is not dragging it across the paint, work the soap from the roof down, leave the wheels and the lower panels until last because that is where the worst of it collects, and give yourself enough time on the clock that you are not rinsing in a hurry. Bays vary in what they offer, so look at the dial before feeding the machine: pre-soak, tire cleaner, foaming brush, high pressure rinse and a spot-free final pass are common settings. Check what the payment options are before you arrive, since some sites still run on coins while others have moved to cards and taps.
Vehicles in this valley get dirty in seasonal patterns. Summer is hot and dry and everything picks up dust, more so if you are driving orchard roads or gravel access up the benches. Spring brings pollen and the residue of the wet months, and autumn adds fallen fruit and leaves under the trees. Winter here is short and grey rather than heavy with snow, so the road salt problem is smaller than in most of the country, but the grime is constant. A self-serve bay also suits the jobs an automatic cannot manage, like a bike rack, a canopy, a boat trailer or a truck bed that needs a proper hose out.
