Car Washes
Sonic Wash Express
About Sonic Wash Express
Springfield Road threads across the flatter ground on the Dilworth side of Kelowna, below the hillside streets that climb the mountain, and Sonic Wash Express sits along it at 1920 Springfield Rd. It is the kind of stop that works best folded into a trip you are already making rather than driven to on its own.
An express wash trades thoroughness for speed, and used sensibly that is a good trade. The tunnel handles the paint, the glass and the wheels in a few minutes with you still in the seat. What it will not do is reach inside a truck bed, clean out a roof box or deal with a hitch and trailer, so those jobs still want a bay and a wand. Before joining the queue, fold in the mirrors, shut the windows properly, and look at whether a bike rack or a roof rack is going to clear. If you wash often, ask whether a monthly pass is available, because that is usually where the value sits.
Grime here arrives on a seasonal schedule. Hot dry summers coat everything in dust, particularly for anyone driving the orchard benches or the gravel above the valley floor, and long highway runs collect a windscreen full of insects. Spring adds pollen and the residue of the wet months; autumn brings leaves and fallen fruit under the trees. Winter is short and more grey than white, so salt damage is less of a worry than in most of Canada, but a car still finishes the season filthy. Washing before the muck sets, rather than after it bakes on in July heat, is the whole trick.
