About Shady Rest
You will find Shady Rest at 1359 Sutherland Avenue, in the part of Kelowna where offices, restaurants and cultural venues sit a few blocks back from the waterfront parks. The number to call is 250 860 2260.
Every restaurant answers a slightly different set of questions, and a quick call clears most of them up before anyone gets in a car. Whether the room takes reservations or works on a first-come basis makes a real difference on a busy evening. So does whether there is a patio, how large a group the space can seat together, and how the kitchen handles the common allergies and dietary requests. Menus in this city also move with the growing season, since produce from the valley benches is close at hand for months of the year, so what was on the board last time may not be on it now.
Downtown Kelowna rewards leaving the car once you have parked it. The civic and commercial core is compact enough that a meal, a gallery and a walk down to the lake can be strung together on foot, which is not true of much of the rest of a city that spreads for kilometres along the shoreline and up into the benches. Parking gets tighter through the summer months, when visitors arrive for the lake and the wineries and the streets fill in the evening. Off season is a different city, quieter and easier, and the walk from a parking spot to the door is a short one.
