About Mosaic Books
Four blocks up from the waterfront parks, Mosaic Books occupies 411 Bernard Avenue in the middle of the downtown Kelowna retail run. Bernard is the street the city keeps coming back to, a walkable spine of shops, restaurants and offices stepping down toward Okanagan Lake, and a bookshop on it draws both the lunch hour browse and the deliberate weekend visit.
What a bookshop actually holds varies a great deal from one to the next, so a call to 250-763-4418 is worth making before a special trip for something particular. Some carry deep local and regional sections, some lean literary, some keep a serious children's room, and most will order in a title they do not have on the shelf, with the wait depending on the distributor rather than the shop. Stationery, cards, games and gift lines often share the floor in shops like this. The shop is online at mosaicbooks.ca, which is the quickest way to check on a title before driving downtown.
Getting there is easy on foot and manageable by car. Street parking along Bernard is metered with time limits that turn over quickly, and the parkades a block off the main run are the safer bet if you plan to browse properly. Downtown fills in through the summer, when the beaches and the waterfront pull people into the same few blocks. The shoulder seasons are quieter and, for anyone who likes to take their time in the aisles, better. Winter here is short and grey rather than deeply snowy, which keeps the sidewalks usable most of the year.
